The cylindrical BCT-Monitor (see Foreground) for Precision-Measurement
of COSY-Beam-Current, mounted in the COSY-Ring
To shield against outer Magnetic Fields the BCT-Monitor gets enclosed by
three concentrically arranged Barrels of Mu-Metal.
Step 1: The
under Halfshells of these three Barrels are mounted (Top View).
Step 2: A flexible Tube of Copper Cord, filled with Foam Plastic,
is wrapped around the BCT-Monitor building a thermal Bridge to the
inmost of the three Barrels. A Sensor for Temperature-Measurement
is placed on the BCT (see: brown Foil with Flat-Cable)
Step 3: The inmost Barrel is closed by mounting also its upper Halfshell.
Step 4: A Heat-Tape (400 W) is wrapped around.
The Power Supply can be controlled regarding the Output
of the Temperature Sensor to obtain a constant Temperature of the
BCT-Monitor.
Step 5: A Layer of Fiberglass around the Heat-Tape provides
a thermal Insulation against the outer Mu-Metal-Barrels.
Step 6: The two outer Mu-Metal-Barrels are closed by mounting their upper Halfshells.

The completed Arrangement of magnetic and thermal Shielding
(Lateral View). Its Weight of about 22 kg is based on a Frame to
prevent the sensitive COSY-Beamline from kneeling.
